Leadership skills and a crocheting business might seem an unlikely pairing; yet planning and implementation, problem solving, working with the public, promoting the product (quality programs/quality items), and evaluating outcomes, indeed fit together and are transferable skills. I am a retired middle school principal/teacher with over 30 years of experience in Montgomery County MD, Fairfax County, and Fauquier County, VA. As an adjunct assistant professor I taught the course “Management and Mentorship” in the School of Education and Human Development at Shenandoah University. I used my experiences as a school principal to train and coach candidates seeking secondary school licensure, pointing these individuals to resources, offering advice, and providing constructive feedback. As a retiree, I have become more involved and active in my community by volunteering in my church, sorority, and local hospital. I recently launched a small crochet business. As a young woman, I had learned to crochet and loved the craft but needed to put this interest aside as a young working mom. As a retiree, I returned to crocheting, creating items for my grandchildren, and realized that I could use my expertise in leadership to launch a small business, one that would enable busy leaders and entrepreneurs to give unique gifts. Whether working as a consultant/trainer or completing a crochet project, “Quality Delivered” is my logo and my goal with clients. ~ Wallicia
